Phillip was born in Westmoreland County but lived much of his life in Indiana County, where many of his descendants still live today.

Phillip Sheffler was the oldest child of John (Johannes) Sheffler, himself the oldest of George Sheffler, of Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County PA. Phillip, like most of the men of John Sheffler's line, was a Blacksmith. He died between 1900 and 1910.
